I have looked at the overall fixture statistics for both U12 girls’ teams and U12 boys’ teams so far this year and those planned until the end of the year. When we compare the number of fixtures the U12A boys and U12A girls had/will have by the end of the year, the difference is only 3 (18 – Hockey, Netball and Cricket for girls and 15 – Rugby, Football, Hockey, and Cricket for boys). However, you are correct in highlighting that there is a big difference in terms of U12B fixtures for boys and girls (15-1).

I will highlight your comments to the PE department, and I will ensure the new Director of Sport starting in September is also aware. So that you are aware, it is not always possible to get B team fixtures with other schools, some schools only run A teams unlike St Edward’s. I am also aware that many boys have played in mixed U12/U13 fixtures this year rather than just as U12A/B and therefore, statistically, it appears the U12 boys have played less than the girls, but many boys will have played for the year above therefore getting more matches.

I don’t perceive the reason for this discrepancy to be an issue of sex, although I can see how you may have come to this conclusion, rather that it is unfair for one team or group of students to get vastly more fixtures than another regardless of which sex that team might be directed towards.

Thank you for your comments and I hope I have been able to answer them adequately.
